Iqra'a mobile bookcase

This piece is the result of months of work in collaboration with Amani Hani Abudawood, a professional in child learning based in KSA. With the core aim of bringing young children closer to books, and instilling in them the love of reading, the Iqra' Mobile Library was born. The word Iqra', Arabic for 'read', creates the compartments where books can be stored, on both sides of the library. Small drawers and even pencil/crayon compartments are integrated within the letterforms. A cushioned top allows children to prop on top with their book. Of course, the entire piece is mobile- concealed wheels and a simple handle invite children and their parents to move the library around. On one of the sides, a small chalkboard awaits the child's creative surges, and perhaps even a space for him/her to write their name, marking the piece as their own.
